    Question

Ok, here`s the deal. I have $2k to buy a new computer. I`ve looked at mac. and Pc. The more I look the more confused I become. I will be using it for dv editing so I`m leaning towards the iMac DV special edition. If anyone out there could tell me the pros and cons of both systems I would appreciate it.

My editor uses AVID software on a MAC computer. I have always bought MAC due to their "stablity"--that is to say that they don't crash as much. I also like their operating system more--it truly is faster because it is more streamlined. To top it off MAC has always had the corner on grpahic leaning software. Good Luck

Well just to balance the argument a little it *IS* entirely possible to get a PC based system using Adobe Premiere and MJPEG (MPEG2 if you wanna spend another ?1K) which doesn't crash. Currently there is much debate over the quality of the available DV codecs, esp. in NTSC land.

One advantage I find is that having a context-sensitive menu on the right-mouse button click means you don't have to remember loads of Apple shortcut keys or go trawling through menus ...

    ;-)

Something you may like to consider:

Mac's use different processor technology, basicly they are like desktop super computers
a 466 mac will perform the same as a 700 intel.

    In case you didn't know!

    Lightbulb

Build your own PC, it's cheap as heck, you can load any OS on to it, and you can buy a multi-processor board to get 1gigahertz and up preformence. That's what i'm doing currently

Well after alot of belly aching, I put the money on the Mac (my pocket book isn`t to happy with me. I`ll tell you that). I figured that I already know the Mac`s Os and learning a new one would be a waste of time. I need to focus on creativity, not technical B.S.As my friends say "Brugh you just gotto be different. Don`t you?". Well what can I say? Thanks for all the input everybody! The Brewmiester
